I've often wondered about all of the great ads that I might be missing. ...I'll be downloading this. Thanks, Apple!
:confused::confused::confused:
Seriously?
Exactly what I thought. Some people are just plan weird.

That is so crazy it's ridiculous. There is no evidence to support your statement. Mac OS X is not headed towards the "walled garden" universe that everyone seems to freak out over. Apple's just giving people who don't know anything about computers an easy way to purchase and find applications.
I do agree, however, that by not including applications outside of the Mac App Store Apple is diminishing the value of the award. I believe it is within their right to do so, although I don't like it.
Oh certainly they won't lock OSX down in the near future but it is a clear shun for any developer that doesn't want to play in their sandbox and take a 30% hit for the privilege.
Then again, we didn't have any sort of 'App store' 3 years ago. I'd say that's a pretty rapid pace for a big change in the way people are buying applications.

Well, to be fair I have no idea what happened but depending on what they did, it could be very unfair to say they just "hurt his feelings".
That being said, yeah, I think that poster is being a little delusional that they'd shut the whole store down over what he did.
At best Best Buy fires anyone involved that caused them to have to pay out some large fine and maybe any of the managers that were around at the time. But they aren't going to shut the store down over it. And that is how it should be, cause the whole store shouldn't suffer because of some really bad employees (but the bad employees should be gone).
So glad to know that there are still reasonable and rational thinkers in this world!

Yes, for the volume up/down rocker switch. If yours doesn't, I think you may have a fake.
I call yours fake. They forgot to put in the switch.

Well if they do launch it so soon, it probably won't replace the current iPods, but be a new highend model.
I agree, the 5.5 release is too soon to have it be a full replacement. Additionally it will likely be a lot more expensive and an unnecessary extra cost to those who don't need that functionality. Now the question remains however, will there be multiple capacities for the "true video" or just one large on?

I actually think the numbers will be smaller because even if people say they will leave now, when it comes time to actually do it....only a portion will actually follow through.
A couple of the issues were caused by some things Apple did incorrectly in the GSM radio. It'll be interesting to see if they do well w/ the CDMA portion.

Theres little point in putting flash memory in a consumer-grade notebook.
The expense is enormous (retail: 32GB SSD $250, 64GB SSD $1500 vs. $150 for a 2.5″ 250GB SATA hard drive)
Power savings dont increase runtime significantly, since other systems use far more power than the hard drive.
The big advantage to SSD is shock resistance: great for a Toughbook, but pointless in a MacBook.

I have to say, when I first heard about the iPhone I let my Verizon account go, because I knew I wanted to get the iPhone. Well AT&T sucks up in my part of the woods. We have terrible coverage. My girlfriend uses Verizon - let's just say, I can't wait for Verizon to start offering the iPhone.

Do they have to remake a new "Universal Binary?" Because aren't the current UB's for Intel and PPC? Please tell me they wont. I don't wnat to have to wait again for new UB's
In the windows world, they don't have separate or universal binaries for amd/intel. You wouldn't for OSX either.

So if another car company was hiding the same problem Toyota had, and Toyota pointed it out, that would be wrong? Why are the other companies denying it?
Apple should simply focus on resolving their own issues. It's not their job to be the "tattle tell" police pointing out problems or potential problems with their competitors. The press and/or markets will uncover issues with Apple competitors.

iCal still looks terrible.
Much quicker update than the last one for me.
I think the realistic minimal RAM requirements will move to 4GB with Lion. Installing on an older MacBook with 2GB of RAM has proven that Lion loves RAM and Beachballs :) .
It is fairly stable for a "Beta/Preview" build though and seems to be closer to being ready to ship.
The macbook air's ship with 2gig standard. They wont leave a computer that new behind.

The cinema display's didn't change, all that changed was the price. So there isn't any "previous generation model" from what I understand.
Did you miss the part about brighter and greater contrast ratio?

The Apple Cinema Displays are expensive, but these are high-end professional grade LCDs. If you're going to be using them only to surf the web and watch TV then your money is wasted -- go and get a cheap Dell instead.
I know what I'll get when I'm looking for an LCD for my graphics work.
Take a look at this report:
http://images.apple.com/pro/pdf/AppleReport2005_rc1_051214.pdf
We use EIZO and Apple Cinema Display LCDs at work (we do web and print design and photography/digital imaging), and they are worth every dollar. We would not settle for anything less.
So in conclusion: for gaming and general web surfing, get a cheap consumer LCD. For serious graphics work, design and digital imaging, get a high-end LCD from trusted makers such as Apple, LaCie or EIZO.
I'm sick of people whining about the Apple Cinema Displays and how Apple is "ripping" people off. Booohooo. If you're complaining, then the ACD isn't meant for you. And if you think the ACDs cost a lot, you haven't seen the prices for the EIZOs!

The iPhone 4 also has edge-to-edge glass, that isn't new!
Anyway, I think that the bigger the screen within the current iPhone frame (without making the actual device any bigger), the better!
This will also be easier to adopt for developers, as "old resolution" apps can run with a small black border at the top and on the sides, while new apps can take advantage of a few extra pixels, if the pixel count changes.
If the pixel count doesn't change, but rather stays the same and the pixels get bigger, then the "retina-ness" of the display will get somewhat diluted, but maybe that would even be noticeable at this small scale.
I don't think it would be noticeable.
The size change to the screen that is being suggested is about 8% which on the 326 dpi current screen would see a drop to pretty much bang on 300dpi.
Coincidentally the exact resolution of pretty much all magazine print.
It's not as though people look at magazines thinking "Euuurgh! Look at all those hideous dots!"
And yes, even if you held a magazine the same distance from your face as an iPhone :p
I think a physical size change would attract bad press "Apple makes all iPhone 4 peripherals redundant!!!11" and likewise a resolution change would seriously piss off the development community that is the main breadwinner for Apple in the AppStore.
The double pixel bump from 3 to 4 avoided this because it was a straight doubling of rez so apps could be elegantly(ish) upscaled. Adding a few extra pixels would achieve very little and be extremely annoying for the app devs.
The fact that the 'Retina Display' is established in the public's mind means that they aren't going to notice (or care) about an extremely marginal drop in resolution.
In fact, the only people who will even mention it will be Android owners:D

EDIT: Actually I just saw you are in Germany, you can still have it if you pay shipping, but I don't know if it will work because of country restrictions...

Question: When did the keynote end? Was it 11 PM EST or PST?
If it were to end 11 PM EST, wow, what a long keynote! 11 hours! :D :p
If it had ended 11 AM EST, it would have ended an hour before it began. :D :p

I think its pretty obvious the OP just made this whole story up to get attention.
Nonetheless, the way HR policies work anymore, people won't have their paychecks "docked" for cash shortages. Loss Prevention will investigate the cash shortage, the kid will most likely be exonerated of theft and given a "first and final warning." BB is a big company and they won't typically fire someone for a first offense...although the kids day certainly would have been ruined with the stress of the investigation and implied allegations.
So while I personally believe the OP just did this to get a rise, the amount of absolute ignorance and naivete of the remaining posters here is laughable. You people really need to put away your pitchforks and torches and get some common sense.
Bull. I had a girlfriend in high school get fired from OfficeMax for being $100 off where she had been working for almost a year.
News for you. Your girlfriend didn't get fired for that ONE instance. You just were totally biased about the facts....inclusive of the ones she didn't give you about all the other things she had done wrong prior that made this the proverbial straw on the camels back.
